Tulsi Gabbard and the four regulative principles

Does she know what HDG A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada said about it?

It’s shocking to see devotees to be bewildered about the politics now going on in the name of “righteousness and peace”. But is Gabbard herself practicing Vaishnavism?

As a devotee of God (devoted to Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead) you have to follow the four religious principles to have the basis to understand spiritual life. Without restraining oneself it’s generally not possible to understand God.

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Similarly, if you always keep yourself spiritually engaged, your body will act spiritually, although it is material. The same example: when an iron rod is red-hot, touch it anywhere, and it will burn. It takes on the quality of fire. Similarly, if you always keep yourself in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then you will become spiritualized. You will act spiritually. No more material demands.

Bob: How do I do this?

Śrīla Prabhupāda: This process. They are doing it. You have seen these boys, our six boys who have been initiated today. It is very simple. You have to follow the four restrictive regulations and chant these beads. Very easy.

Devotee (2): Śrīla Prabhupāda, because you are presenting this knowledge so purely, then it’s possible for the common man to understand this knowledge without chanting and following the four regulative principles?

Prabhupāda: That is not possible. That is not possible. Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam [Cc. Antya 20.12]. You have to cleanse the mirror of your consciousness, then the reflection will be properly viewed. If you keep it dirty, then it is not possible. Therefore we require first-class men to understand this philosophy, not the fourth-class man. If you keep him fourth-class man, it is not possible.

“All these requirements, however, can essentially be broken down into four basic rules: no illicit sexual connection, no intoxication, no meat-eating and no gambling. These are the four minimum regulations for the execution of any yoga system. And in this age who can refrain from these activities? We have to test ourselves accordingly to ascertain our success in yoga execution.

However somehow Gabbard as a Siddhaswarupa disciple doesn’t seem to understand the importance of a religious life that becomes spiritualized by following a bonafide spiritual master.

Srila Prabhupada’s statement about a bonafide spiritual master

Does Mrs. Gabbard cares for religious principles?

“Therefore it is said, hṛc-chaya-avaśam. Avaśam sahasaiva: “all of a sudden,” vimohitam, “he became very much attracted.”

So this is the social condition. If in society we have no restriction, then naturally those young boys and girls, they will be inclined. And as soon as one is sexually inclined, he forgets all other culture and gradually becomes downfallen, as you will see from the life of Ajāmila, although he was trained up. So similarly, this is a warning to our students that they are learning how to become Kṛṣṇa conscious. It is very difficult job. To become Kṛṣṇa conscious is not very easy thing. But by the grace of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu we are trying to teach them, and it is becoming effective. Otherwise, how you all European and Americans can give up these four sinful activities? So try to preserve. And it can be preserved only by remaining in the devotional service. It can be. Sa guṇān samatītyaitān brahma-bhūyāya kalpate (BG 14.26).

As soon as you come on the platform of Brahman, brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā na śocati na kāṅkṣati (BG 18.54), then you will be able. Otherwise you will not be able. If you don’t come on the transcendental platform, then you will not be able to.

Public display of her political feminist soldier construct (with Abraham Williams)

As one sees she is not in favor of a peaceful environment that is created by following the four regulative principles. She is even in favor for abortion as mentioned previously (see other published articles on this site).

In Bharat-Bhumi (India) kissing and to hook up with the other part is still condemned as Srila Prabhupada explains:

Śūdram. This business on the public way, kissing, embracing, this is meant for the śūdras. Therefore it is said, kalau śūdrā-sambhavāḥ: “In the Kali-yuga the population is all śūdra.” There is no brahminical culture. Brahminical culture means śama, dama, controlling the mind, controlling the senses. A real brāhmaṇa will never agree to embrace the opposite sex in public way. No. That is not brāhmaṇa’s business. He has been trained up how to become controller of the mind, controller of the senses. That is the first business of a brāhmaṇa. Śama, dama, satyam. He is truthful; śaucam, clean, thrice taking bath.”

“So śūdra… This kind of business on the public street… Just like cats and dogs, they have sex pleasure without any shame on the street. Similarly, the śūdras, they embrace the opposite sex in the public street, and sometimes they have got sex also. I have seen in the Western countries—without any shame… So he saw, this brāhmaṇa boy. The brāhmaṇa boy saw. He is young man. Although he is qualified with the brāhmaṇa… Not exactly qualified; otherwise he would not have fallen. He was on the neophyte stage. Therefore we restrict, “No illicit sex.” Completely forbidden. Otherwise it will be very difficult to keep oneself in the brahminical standard and make spiritual progress. Without being in the platform of brāhmaṇa, you cannot make any spiritual progress.

“Nowadays, not so much in India, but in the Western countries it is very usual thing—a young man is embracing another young woman or kissing. So there is no fault. But according to Vedic civilization, this is fault because it will give chance to others. Nowadays in picture they are also shown, to enthuse others to become lusty, and that is the beginning of his falldown. But there is no restriction. The young men, they are seeing daily in the cinema, on the road, in their school, college.”

What’s your favorite healthy dish and how were you introduced to it?

As a lifelong vegetarian, I do my best to maintain a healthy diet and eat plenty of fruits, veggies, and drink lots of water. My all-time favorite is a traditional Samoan dish that my mom has made since I was a kid, called fa’alifu. You can make it with taro or ulu (breadfruit), along with coconut milk, onions, and a few spices — delicious!

As eating is concerned she favors vegan food with spices and even onions … this ingredients are never touched, because Vaishnavas offering food that Krsna wants.

At the this yoghurt shop she chose to eat vegan ice-cream

Tulsi Gabbard, congresswoman from Hawaii

“I try to stay away from it, but vegan cupcakes is probably a real threat on the trail.”

As Vaishnavas we need to offer what Krsna wants that is milk, grains, vegetables and fruits in endless varieties of food preparations.

“In the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement our practice is that we don’t allow the killing of any animals. Kṛṣṇa says, patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ yo me bhaktyā prayacchati: “Vegetables, fruits, milk, and grains should be offered to Me in devotion.” (Bhagavad-gītā 9.26) We take only the remnants of Kṛṣṇa’s food (prasādam). The trees offer us many varieties of fruits, but the trees are not killed. Of course, one living entity is food for another living entity, but that does not mean you can kill your mother for food. Cows are innocent; they give us milk. You take their milk—and then kill them in the slaughterhouse. This is sinful.

That is comfortable to have some fast food always on the go but as Vaishnavas we need to prepare everything for Krsna and then offer it to Krsna. Instead of having a personal cook or have her husband delivering some Krsna-Prasadam she prefers instead to eat normal karmic food! This is considered to be sinful as eating meat is.

If it’s not offered to Krsna, it’s sinful whether it’s meat or veggies as this pic beneath.

Prabhupada: And you must see that what you are doing, that is according to the principle which all other sadhus and devotees do. They have tilaka, and you say, “I have no tilaka.” That is not sadhu-marganu. Sadhu-marganugamanam. They have kanthi. You say, “I can avoid it.” That is not sadhu-marganugamanam. So, from very beginning, if you disobey, then how you’ll make progress?

Gabbard’ Tilak ignorance

Also as someone acting as an official in the public and of course as devotee in general u need to have the right appearance. That should be at least Kuntī malas and Tilak for the devotees with a female body.

“Prabhupāda: Caitanya Mahāprabhu, when His students used to come without tilaka, so He refused to see his face. He refused to see his face. He said it is a crematory ground.

Devotee (2): Why is that?

Prabhupāda: There is no “why.” If you accept it, accept. If you don’t accept, leave us. Leave us. There is no “why.”

Tulsi Gabbard and her karmi heroes

Tulsi is praising Karmi (fruitive workers) and Mayavadi (impersonal) leaders as “hero” or is quoting Mahatma Gandhi as an authority. So she’s completely hooked by the New Age Circus that is hypnotizing so many so-called devotees who want to get name and fame immediately.

What healthy saying, mantra, or motto do you try to live by?

I truly believe in the words of Mahatma Gandhi when he said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

Here she is mentioning Martin Luther King Junior as her karmic “hero”:

There is no mention of milk in that verse. (9.26)

As the guru of SIF I was hoping you could help me understand the policies of Tulsi Gabbard (your candidate for the US Presidency). How is it that she supports abortion? why does she ask celebrities to oppose Right to Life advocates? I thought the first qualification of a sādhu, or devotee, is ahiṁsā, or nonviolence. I have also found out that she has accepted donations from Planned Parenthood USA (abortion providers) totaling thousands of dollars. Is this not blood money?
SB 1.7.37 “He who gives permission, he who kills the animal, he sells the slaughtered animal, he how cooks the animal, he who administers the distribution of the foodstuff, and at last he who eats the such cooked animals are all murderers , and all of them are liable to be punished by the laws of nature”.
This makes me wonder who is going to take the karma if babies are aborted. It seems Tulsi Gabbard and her team will take on karma as well – that is not good.
In the past you were against abortion, back in the mid-seventies you sung „I saw millions of babies killed yet while in the womb. As a mother cried out our house has got no room”. Has the truth changed?
Tusta was strongly against abortion too because he wrote to Bhaktivedanta Swami about it.
Bhaktivedanta’s reply (last letter) to Tusta dated February 04, 1977
    “Dear Tusta Krsna Maharaj,
Please accept my blessings. I have received your letter of January 19, and have heard the contents. Certainly we are opposed to abortion, and we can advise that it is not good, but do not take an active part in this political agitation against abortion…”

    Bhagavad gita 3.21
“Whatever action is performed by a great man, common men follow in his footsteps. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues”.
Tulsi is admired and followed by a large number of Indians and Americans. People look up to her. Can anyone guarantee, that nobody has been influenced by her promotion of abortion? She says she is antiwar but Bhaktivedanta Swami taught that cow slaughter, abortion and other sinful behaviour is what creates wars and pestilence.

One should accept a thing as genuine by studying the words of saintly people, the spiritual master and śāstra. The actual center is śāstra, the revealed scripture. If a spiritual master does not speak according to revealed scripture, he is not to be accepted. Similarly, if a saintly person does not speak according to the śāstra, he is not a saintly person. ŚĀSTRA IS THE CENTER FOR ALL. Unfortunately, at the present moment, people do not refer to the śāstras.
